Improvement of the spark-ignition engine emissions in full-load mode using nitrous oxide

Abstract

The article proposes a method to improve the emissions of a spark-ignition engine in full-load mode by using nitrous oxide additive to the air charge. The research object is the influence of the addition of nitrous oxide to the air charge on a spark ignition engine emission at constant fuel consumption under full load. The purpose of the study is a theoretical study of the improvement of the conditions for the effective operation of the catalytic converter at the stoichiometric composition of the mixture without deterioration of fuel efficiency and energy indicators. The results of calculation studies of the impact of the addition of oxygen-containing gas - nitrous oxide to the air charge on the emissions of the spark-ignition engine with an injection system, feedback and with or without catalytic converter are given. It is shown that the use of nitrous oxide additives can improve the emissions of a modern gasoline engine without decreasing of fuel economy and performance.
