Alternative fuels from renewable resources for automotive diesel engines

Anatolii Korpach Oleksii Korpach

Abstract

The article considers alternative diesel fuels from renewable resources of plant origin that are suitable for use in automotive diesel engines. The object of study – alternative diesel fuels. The purpose of the work – analyze the efficiency of production and the possibilities of using alternative fuels in modern automobile diesels, which can be obtained from renewable resources of plant origin. The research method – analytical. Alternative diesel fuels are considered: biodiesel fuel (FAME and FAEE), diesel fuels obtained by hydrotreating vegetable oils (HVO) and synthesis method (BTL). The production technology of each group of alternative diesel fuels and the effectiveness of their use in automotive diesels are analyzed. It has been established that today, due to the more simple production technology, biodiesel fuel remains the most common alternative fuel for automobile diesels. However, due to its higher density and kinematic viscosity, as well as high chemical activity due to residual alcohols, it can be used either in a mixture with mineral diesel fuel, or it is required to adapt the engine design and settings. Diesel fuels obtained by HVO and BTL methods are considered to be more promising fuels from renewable raw materials of plant origin. The physico-chemical properties of these fuels allow them to be used in modern engines without changing the design or addition, BTL fuel has a very wide raw material base, but due to the high cost of production, they have not been widely distributed yet. The results shown in the article can be used for further research on the alternative diesel fuels using effectiveness.
