Identification and analysis of features and relationships between the fundamental concepts of logistics and supply chain management

A. Sevostianova О. Turchyk

Abstract

Actuality of theme. Supply chain management covers the planning, design, control and implementation of all business processes related to the procurement, production, distribution and execution of business sales orders. All of these activities include numerous networks of suppliers and service providers, which are brought together and coordinated by experts in the organization's supply chain to move raw materials and finished products from all remote locations around the world. The purpose of this article is to determine the terminological and logical relationship between the terms logistics and SCM. The evolution of the SCM concept in modern conditions is also considered. To generalize the approaches of scientists to the stages of evolution of the SCM concept. And the prospects of the logistics market in Ukraine are determined. This article discusses the terminology and logical connection between logistics and supply chain management. The common and distinctive features of these concepts are considered. The evolution of the SCM concept in modern conditions is also determined. The approaches of scientists to the stages of evolution of the SCM concept are generalized. The state of development of the logistics services market, the current direction of implementation and realization of logistics methods in the practice of business management are analyzed. The problem of logistics implementation in business activity and the reasons for its slow development in Ukraine are highlighted. Prospects of the Ukrainian logistics market are determined. Each new economic paradigm requires the improvement of existing management methods and tools and the formation of new management methods and tools. Therefore, the emergence of logistics as a science is a response to the need to implement a marketing-oriented economic paradigm. Further development of logistics science is reflected in the formation of the concept of supply chain management. In this regard, it can be assumed that the formation of a customer-oriented economic paradigm has led to the concept of supply chain management, which most fully reflects the system, interconnectedness and interdependence of business partners in the supply chain. In the modern scientific literature there is no single and universal definition of «supply chain». We would rather talk about at least a few interpretations of this concept, which are characterized by interchangeability and complementarity. The supply chain is also seen as a strategic concept that involves defining and managing the entire process system to add value to the delivered product. The supply chain is linked to the integrated management of the movement of goods and information from the sale of major suppliers to end users. It covers the transformation of any logistical actions and procedures, materials and services required to produce products or provide services. The logistics market in Ukraine has recently begun to take shape, with the first operators emerging in the 2000s. This indicates the immaturity of domestic logistics, which, although learning from the experience of European countries, is still developing and improving. Both theoretical and practical research and improvement require constant research of this market. Summing up the development of logistics services in Ukraine, it should also be noted that the main obstacles to market development are: lack of terminals, transport and logistics and high-end warehouses; insufficient provision of comprehensive transport and logistics services for international and interregional transportation, the difficulty of combining its own logistics with the services of the supplier, insufficient number of qualified personnel in the field of logistics. Successful supply chain management requires some basic requirements: the availability of the necessary logistics infrastructure, the availability of high quality staff, management support, the presence of team leaders, cooperation in the logistics chain should be based on partnership. Supply chain management is a comprehensive and systematic approach, and many supply and marketing operations need to be considered at the same time. Therefore, it is necessary to further study the related issues of supply chain formation and management, to outline prospects for further development.
