Forecasting the durability of road covering made of stone-mastic asphalt concrete

Abstract

The paper proposes a criterion for the limit state of a coating made of stone-mastic asphalt concrete, which takes into account the thermo-rheological properties of stone-mastic asphalt concrete, with the application of the provisions of the kinetic theory of the strength of solid bodies and is based on the principles of Palgrain-Miner and Bailey about the superposition of damage to the structure of the material during the service life under the negative joint action of the most influential factors . Object of the study –a non-rigid road surface made of stone-mastic asphalt concrete. Purpose of the study– to establish analytical dependencies for predicting the integrity violation of the stone – mastic asphalt concrete covering, taking into account the effects of the factors affecting it. Method of the study – experimental and analytical. The durability of a road surface made of stone -mastic asphalt concrete is most affected by the factors that cause the appearance of tensile stresses and its cracking, namely: horizontal normal stresses under the action of traffic load and temperature fluctuations, in addition, the stone-mastic asphalt concrete surface is affected by wheel load, which causes surface tensile stresses, which together with temperature stresses create a general stress state. The existing national regulatory method of road surface design does not fully take into account the joint action of vehicles and temperature fluctuations, as well as the effect of other influencing factors on the durability of the pavement. According to the accepted working hypothesis: the durability of the coating made of the stone-mastic asphalt concrete is determined mainly by its resistance to breaking integrity as a result of the negative joint action of the most influential factors: transport load, shrinkage of the coating from a decrease in temperature during its fluctuation, shrinkage of the coating from the "aging" of the bitumen in caustic, water and frost effects, delamination of the asphalt concrete mixture in case of violation of recipe and technological parameters, insufficient adhesion to the lower layer. The resistance of the stone-mastic asphalt concrete to plastic deformations will be ensured by compliance with the requirements of current regulatory documents.
