Transport of megacities: current status, problems, reengineering and environmental improvement

Volodymyr Porfirenko D. Dekhtiarenko Микола Hrebelnyk М. Khobta

Abstract

The article analyzes the congestion of transport networks of Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv and Dnipro by cars and their impact on air pollution and suggested ways to solve related problems. The object of research is public transport. The aim of the work is to propose methods of improving air quality and reducing the demand for the use of own transport on the basis of the analysis of indicators of the level of motorization, air pollution and multi-storey buildings (skyscrapers). Research methods - statistical and general scientific. Kyiv ranks 7th in the world and 3rd in the Europe in terms of traffic congestion and the amount of time that people spend extra due to congestion. Odessa is 11th in the world and 5th in Europe, Kharkiv is 13th and 7th, Dnipro is 22nd and 12th, respectively. Congestion of the network with road transport leads not only to congestion, but also to the deterioration of the environmental situation in cities. The authors of the article emphasize that the problem of solving congestion and environmental safety in general is a complex issue and depends not only on the need to switch to cars with electric motors, but also on the development of fast, expected public transport together with cars. The creation of BRT and LRT systems, as well as urban electric trains with combined fares will force people to change from their own transport and get home to work and vice versa faster, which will increase national domestic production, leading to economic growth and social security.
