The role of innowations in supply chain management

О. Komchatnykh Nataliia Redko

Abstract

The object of the study is the processes of supply chain management. The purpose of the study – to deepen the theoretical foundations on the general issues of the role of innovation in supply chain management. Methods of research – analysis and synthesis. Innovation is an indispensable element of supply chain management, especially for logistics operators. Innovations in logistics are becoming more and more important for enterprises that strive to strengthen their position in the market, to be ahead of competitors and to create added customer value. Innovations allow to increase the efficiency of product delivery to the final consumer. The issue of innovation in the supply chain and transport and logistics enterprises is not sufficiently disclosed in the scientific literature. Usually scientists are engaged in the study of product, process, organizational and marketing innovations. And this causes certain difficulties when trying to connect the available research results with the supply chain. In this study, issues related to innovation in the supply chain were considered. The essence and meaning of innovations in logistics were investigated, the classification of innovations was carried out and individual innovative solutions in logistics were considered. In addition, an attempt was made to systematize these solutions on the stages of the supply chain – source, make, deliver, return. The solutions considered are partly known and used by logistics operators as a source of improving supply chain efficiency, but for individual links in the chain, the solutions considered can become radical or incremental innovations.
